2010 NC Songwriters Showcase Stages
(10 min break between each performance) SATURDAY, JULY 3, 2010 10:00-10:30: Jon Batson (http://www.jonbatson.com) Jon Batson has followed the advice given to him by Oscar Brown, Jr.: “Sing your own song and make it something people will enjoy.” Has performed at the National Cathedral, the Hollywood Pavilion and the Great Wall of China. Five stage musicals produced in Hollywood and music on television, including The Tonight Show. 10:40-11:10: Joe Woodson (http://josongs.home.mindspring.com) Chapel Hill singer-songwriter Joe Woodson has been singing and playing since he was knee-high to a Gibson. Tunes played by stations throughout the US, France, New Zealand, Australia, and Sweden. Joe placed third in the 2006 North Carolina State Fair vocal duo competition. Joined by Jordan Koronet, bass. 11:20-12:00: Tubby Ridge (http://www.kirkridgemusic.com) Bobb Head, Bob Vasile, and John Pugh playing Kirk Ridge catchy original “swinggrass” tunes. Band members have been featured on Prairie Home Companion, Mountain Stage, NPR’s Fresh Air and Car Talk, and in American Songwriter Magazine. Performed at festivals throughout the US and UK. With special guest Adam Broderson. SUNDAY, JULY 4, 2010 10:00-10:20: Bob Vasile (http://www.bobvasile.com) With Pratie Heads, Bob Vasile has performed at the Smithsonian, NPR's Diane Rehm and The State of Things. NC Arts Council and NEA grants. With Acoustic Atta-Tude won a INDIE award for best album of the year. Won the 1996 Wayne Henderson guitar competition. Joined by Doug Carger on bass, dumbeck and flute. 10:30-10:50: Chuck Champion (http://www.chuckchampion.com) Chuck Champion is a singer/songwriter from Fuquay Varina, NC, currently residing in Mebane. He performs throughout the south as a solo performer as well as fronting the bands "The Big Tippers" and "Chuck Champion and the Rank Contenders." Currently finishing his first solo CD with a fall tour planned. 11:00-11:20: Amissville (http://www.amisvillemusic.com) Singer-songwriters Meredith Laney and David Holtzclaw. Playing in venues throughout the Carolinas, Amissville shows consist of a blend of intimate original songs and creative covers. Their first CD, Out of Town, is due out this summer. Proud recipient of a 2010 Regional Artist Project Grant awarded by the Arts and Science Council. 11:30-12:00: The Cloers (http://www.thecloers.com) The Cloers are an award winning acoustic duo based in Davidson, NC. Their sound can be described as strong pop melodies complimented by Cate's country-rock vocals, and John's percussive acoustic guitar style. Recipient of a 2010 NC regional artist project grant and were named the 2010 Charlotte Music Awards Best Singer Songwriter. MONDAY, JULY 5, 2010 10:00-10:20: Jamie Purnell (http://www.jamiepurnell.com) Jamie Purnell is a songwriter of melodic tunefulness and incisive word craft. His genre-hopping music evokes shameful lust, hopeful melancholy, joyful retreat, humorous love, musty grief, lingering regret, recuperative reconciliation, and nerdy isolation. A veteran of stages large and small including the Raleigh St. Patrick’s Day Parade. 10:30-10:50: Louise Bendall (http://www.louisebendall.com) Louise Bendall makes musical bliss that has been called "fun, funky folk." Her adventures have taken her around the globe, including shows in Hong Kong with the band Watermelon Sugar. Also performs with Chocolate Martini Therapy and enjoys being one of the hosts of WCOM’s Licks & Lyrics. 11:00-11:20: Pete Leary (http://www.peteleary.com) Pete Leary is a songwriter, singer, yodeler, and humorist, performing at folk festivals from FL to NY. Learned to yodel as a youth and has combined it with scatting to form his special "Scodeling." Has presented Yodeling workshops at the LEAF festival in Black Mountain, NC for several years. 11:30-12:00 Peter Laiosa and Trey Marchant (http://www.peterlaiosa.com) Peter Laiosa and Trey Marchant, known as "Ace and T-Bone" play original acoustic Blues, Jazz and Folk with lots of energy, harmonies and fun. Originals and their own unique interpretation of many old jazz standards, their style is unique with influences from the roots and jazz traditions. Currently finishing a third CD. |
